Women at Work

This small body of work applies a feminist lens to the Ukrainian wartime economy that allows women to work high-paying industrial or mining jobs that were illegal before men departed for war. Floral patterns and textile collage place the feminine in a man’s world. Unevenly abstracted shapes and feral marks made with myriad tools signify the upended social order. Women who take or are given opportunity excel. It takes societal disruption to break the patriarchy: this time within the tragedy of war.
